The third day of our training course #CATEYEbyCET started nice and fun with a lovely energiser, setting up the stage to dive deeper into the world of humor and comedy. We started by sharing our personal understandings of the terms and what they mean to us. To understand the concept of humor better, we played a game called two truths and a lie. The game allowed us to start the conversation on how we can use humor in order to have an effective communication and to understand better what the elements and features of humor and comedy are.
After sharing our truths and a lie, it was time to make up a story that has a comedic twist. But the catch was that we had to make up a story about an object that was given to each group. After a short break, we acted out our stories in the plenary. It was really a funny activity that concluded by analysing what makes a joke to be funny, why is it important to use humor, how to cultivate it and how we can use it to keep attention, energy and motivation. We also spoke about the types of comedy and what sort of topics we can joke about.
To connect the topic of comedy and humor with youth work, we shifted the conversation towards understanding the youth of today. Split into small teams, we had a task to think of a person that will represent the views of today’s youth. We needed to think about its problems, needs, obstacles, challenges, personality, hobbies and interests. Once we have completed the task, we have presented our findings in the plenary and started the discussion on active engagement of young people in societal life.
